(via iF Magazine) We caught up with producer-extraordinaire Erwin Stoff at the NBC TCAs where he was promoting his upcoming updated-David-and-Goliath-based show KINGS. When asked about other projects he is currently working on, Stoff, let slip some very juicy news about a very beloved anime franchise.
“I’m developing COWBOY BEBOP for Fox, but doing it as a live-action film, so I’m working on that at the moment,” Stoff tells iF. “I’m really excited to be working on it, and it’s in the really early stages. We just signed it the other day.”
Before any of you BEBOP fanboys/fangirls get your skivvies in a twist about yet another questionable anime-to-human adaptation (see: DRAGONBALL), iF made sure to get an oath of fidelity to the original material from Stoff.
“I have such an enormous admiration for its creators, that our first and foremost concern is going to be a real degree of faithfulness to the tone of the movie, to the mix of genres, and so on and so forth,” he says. “When I met with them in Japan, one of the first things that I brought up was the experience that we had on A SCANNER DARKLY, and how hard we worked to remain faithful to Philip K. Dick, and that was our big concern here.”

So yeah, I dunno. I mean, I just don’t know. Is there a call for this? Could it be good? Well sure. But will it be good? I just don’t know. I really am conflicted here.

Thing the first: Spaced: The Complete Series is out at long last. Region 1, in America, only years and years after it should have been released here. Still! New commentaries and extras and all the episodes. So worth your time and money. From the folks that would go on to give you Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz
Thing the second: Ever seen a leopard attack and kill a crocodile? Wanna?

Hysterical animated gif here. I did not make it, I do not know who did. It’s long, but well worth it.

Wanna see the Michael Bay script for Dark Knight? Of course you do. Go click and read the AWESOMENESS!
“But which one of the internets do we hack?” “All of them.”
“She is the hottest woman in the world, but she wears glasses because she is also the smartest woman in the world.”
(And yes of course it’s fake, damn your eyes. But it is exactly what the film would be. And I, for one, want to see it made.)

(via Amanda, via Filmstalker): Sacha Baron Cohen to play Freddie Mercury?
“According to The Mirror newspaper through Digital Spy, one of those pesky insiders has told them that Sacha Baron Cohen is the forerunner for the role ([In a Freddie Mercury bio-pic]and that Cohen loves the idea of the role, especially since his character of Borat looked so similar anyway.
Well I was very skeptical of the rumour of Depp being involved, even though it came from the mouth of Queen guitarist Brian May, but this rumour seems much more plausible. Look at the man himself, although he’s way taller than Mercury was, he has a great look and is a strong character actor.”
———————–
It is a rumor. The last rumor was Depp which would have been awful. I’m sorry, it would have. Cohen looks enough like Mercury and he is good at sliding into characters I think he could do it. No, obviously, it isn’t Borat but don’t forget that the man did a wealth of stuff before Borat and has serious talent.
I am more worried about the movie itself. It runs, of course, the risk of the Behind The Music movie syndrome, as Amanda put it. But if May is involved, and he is it would seem, then I will have faith.
And either way I will go see it. Seriously. A Freddie Mercury Bio-pic? I am so there. Good or bad. But I’m gonna hope for good.

New Bond movie. New Bond trailer.
And if you think the title to the new Bond film is dumb, well I can explain what it means to you, I guess. But I honestly can’t see why anyone wouldn’t like it as a title. It has flow, it has depth and meaning, what else do you need for a good title, exactly?

Yuen Biao has always been an amazing gymnast and martial artist. Here is about 6 minutes worth of clips. They vary in all sorts of ways but sound warning they do vary widley in volume as the thing plays so you prolly wanna bottom out the video and just watch it. Very worth watching. Around the 5 minute mark, for the lazy, he pretty much stops being human.
