Robin.

So Variety is reporting that the CW is planning a new show called The Graysons. Based on Robin. A Smallville type treatment, it would focus on Robin before he was Robin.
Yes. The show would be about The Flying Graysons. Dick would be known as D.J., possibly because the CW recognizes the power of Kirkbride, I dunno, but anyway.
From the article: “In the one-hour “Graysons,” which will be set in modern times, young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up. Souders and Peterson have come up with an original take on the character.”
Here’s the thing though. With Smallville you know the last episode is Clark being all “Fuck youuuuuuuuuu! I’m Suuuuuuuuuuuuperman!” and flying off into the sun or something heroic.
The last episode of The Graysons features his parents being killed while he watches. Well that’s probably the start of the last episode. I suppose the last episode Grayson is all “Fuck youuuuuuuuuuuu! I have a brightly colored costume so I can stand next to Batman while he hides in shadows! Hoo-hah, motherfuckers!”
I dunno. It isn’t as triumphant at all. Also, really? Robin? I mean I love the character, don’t get me wrong but something about it feels off.
Remember Smallville happened because they were going to do a show about a young Bruce Wayne learning to be Batman while he crossed the globe a few times. Then they decided not to do it and landed with Smallville instead. So to go from there to this is … strange? Though put them in a circus and you get travel and freak of the week easily.
Hmmm.
And yeah, Robin, these days, wasn’t 10 when Batman found him. He was like 16.
Maybe if they cast Kirkbride as Grayson… yeah. Then I would watch it.
