Shafted - now with jews.

August 31st, 2008 by APK

So here’s the deal, yo. I got shown this book by Ariana. Ready for this one?

So yeah. SHAFT: Among the Jews. So here’s the deal. I can get a good hardcover copy at Albris for 20 bucks. My paypal address is adampknave @ gmail.com and you know the drill. If you all manage to give me 20 bucks (in total, not per person, obviously) I will buy the book, read it cover to cover and review it.

And we’re talking a long review. A juicy, in-depth review. The kind of review that SHAFT: Among the Jews deserves. Won’t you help a poor forgotten book live again through our shared laughter?

Current funds: Enough for book

Cryptic much?

August 30th, 2008 by APK

I really can’t wait until I can reveal the new project I’m working on, in full. It doesn’t start until Jan ‘09, mind, but soon there will be teases and reveals and such. And they will roll out over the rest of the year. I just can’t start that yet and it’s killing me.

Muahahahah!

Oh McCain!

August 29th, 2008 by APK

HAHAHAHAH! Ok so if you go to the OFFICIAL John McCain store (all sales considered contributions) you can find a pen. The “Students for McCain Pen” to be exact. Here is the small image on the site:

So there you go, it’s a pen. I am hotlinking the images directly. I have not altered them. Go to the link above and see for yourself. See? Pen. Now if you click to enlarge and get a big picture of the pen this is the image, again - hotlinked from the site and not touched by me:

STUDENT’S FOR MCCAIN! Holy fucking hell. I can not stop laughing! Vote for McCain! He’s for Edumacation fer SURE!

10:46 AM on Friday - McCain’s people have edited the photo of the pen to remove the rogue apostrophe. So there you go. Nothing to look at it, it would seem.

And someone grabbed a screenshot so here it is before it was fixed:

McFly Day is MINE!

August 28th, 2008 by APK

So I stole Malfi’s McFly day. See, a few of us (A.J. Jones started it though) treasure McFly Day. That’s the day when you get your new book. See, remember Back to the Future? When George McFly got a big box of his new book and opened them? That was the best day a writer gets. It’s McFly day! I always want that day.

And well, Malfi has a new book out: Passenger: A man wakes up on a Baltimore City bus with no memory of who he is, where he is going, or what has happened to him. His head is recently shaved. His clothes appear new. And written on the palm of one hand is an address. Passenger is a haunting journey of discovery, where the protagonist stumbles through Baltimore’s crumbling streets and a collection of strangely wonderful characters in search of his identity. Yet the more he tries to uncover the mystery of his past, the more he learns it has been hidden from him for a reason.

And Malfi is one of the few authors I will buy a book from, sight unseen. I don’t care what it is about, I trust him that much. He’s that good, frankly.

So I mailed him and told him I got the book and would be reading it this weekend. And he told me he doesn’t have his copies yet. And now, when he does get his McFly moment? I will have symbolically been there first.

Muahahaha!

MUAAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!

AAAAAHAHAHAH*coughhackwheeze*HAHAHAHA!

*ahem*

Take that, Malfi. Now admit it, did you steal the crab hat?

Advice Requested

August 27th, 2008 by APK

Say someone wantged to buy a cheap digital camera. Say they wanted to spend no more than $150, but more like $100. Battery life is important, as is quality and size.

What then, would you suggest they look at?

Fox News attempts new low.

August 26th, 2008 by APK

I don’t think it really counts as a new low, considering how good they are at limbo. But it just might be. Enjoy the screencap:

A mixed bag of awesome.

August 26th, 2008 by APK

So what’s up with me? Well then. the footnote gets a lot of love, of course. Go read it and enjoy. But outside of that? I feel a bullet list coming on!

  • Been working on a novel.
  • And the materials for a comic pitch.
  • And a comic script for something else.
  • And a short film.
  • And now a different, shorter, film project.
  • And laying the groundwork for a new webcomic that will hopefully burst into life in a bit.
  • And the day job.
  • And the coolest new big project ever that I am under NDA about but soon… soon I can talk about it.

So I pretty much: Go to work, work, set up things, go home and write on seven different things at once and then go to bed. The life of excitement.

The Big Lebowski - 10th Anniversary Limited Edition comes in a freakin’ bowling ball.

Mind you, it’s on sale for 24 bucks on Amazon right now, ships Sept 9th. Has new bonus features. Still! Bowling Ball case! But I don’t need a new copy. Like the Dude, I abide.
————————————
Just finished The Accidental Time Machine by Joe Haldeman. I have always loved Haldeman’s work but this book is like … think a Heinlein juvie, but not a juvie. It’s clean. Damned fine book. Fun, exciting, playful, smart and amazingly good writing.
————————————
An d to end with: Here is a Japanese game show where the point is to start yourself to a wall with a rubber band and then try to eat marshmallows on strings. Yes.

Cher. Catwoman. Maybe?

August 25th, 2008 by APK

(via TelegraphUK: Cher to play Catwoman

The 62-year-old singer and actress is reported to be in talks to play Catwoman opposite Christian Bale in the third Batman film from British director Christopher Nolan.

The Oscar-winner will join a cast that includes Johnny Depp as The Riddler as she plays the whip-carrying burglar. The character has also been played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

A studio executive said: “Cher is Nolan’s first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years.

“The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.”

Filming of the new Batman installment, provisionally entitled The Caped Crusader, is due to begin in Vancouver early next year.

—————————————————–

Now this is the Telegraph so take it with a grain of salt. A huge grain, because you might also note that “a studio executive” said it. A studio exec with no name? Hmmm. Yes. But let’s ponder this for a minute.

Cher. As Catwoman. At least we know she has the costume:

and then I decided to write a song, for the eventual film.

When Catwoman hits your face
With a hard-a stolen mace
That’s a-pain-ay!
When Batman seems to whine
About his parents in boxes of pine
That’s a-pain-ay!

Crime’ll ring
Ting-a-ling-a-ling
Ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you’ll sing “Save me, fella”
Cops’ll shot
Root-a-toot-toot
Root-a-toot-toot
Like Two-Face - a capella

When Riddler makes you die
Joost-a like poisoned random guy
That’s a-pain-ay
When you run down the street
With a clown at your feet, you’re in fear
When you get shot in the face
But you know you’re a cop, oh dear
‘Scusami, but you see
Back in old Gotham, that’s a-pain-ay!

Talking Heads: Zod and Ming

August 25th, 2008 by APK

I think I need a new wife. For an hour or so.

You are, truly, merciless.

It wasn’t always so, you know. Why, when I was a child–

You were Ming The Dangerously Precocious?
