My night - let me show you it.

October 3rd, 2007 by APK

Let me tell you about my night. I was feeling like crap so I ended up in bed and reading by about 11:30. I turned off the light and the cat, as she does, came up from her place at my feet to demand petting.

So I pet the cat for a few minutes and then flopped down and intended to sleep.

It got humid last night, so with a fan in the window, my bedroom got humid. So I woke up at one point kinda chilly and damp, which sucked. But whatever, that happens. Noticed I slept on my left wrist wrong or something, and fucked it up. Pulled a muscle in my wrist, or vaporized it or something. Whatever. Curl up on my side and try to get back to sleep.

Cat comes up to head butt me and get a pet or two since I’m up anyway. I pet her, she curls up against my chest and we fall asleep.

A few hours later she has a nightmare. Yes, sometimes the cat has nightmares. She wakes up with a startled, pained, meow and then looks around for a minute. It wakes me up and I always try to pet her a bunch and calm her down so she can get back to sleep. After all, nightmares suck.

So she wanders down the bed to my hip and falls asleep again, leaning against me, and I try to pass back out. Except it’s even more humid now. So the room is just kinda uncomfortable. But if I toss and turn too much the cat gets the idea that I’m awake. And then I should be petting her. So I play dead. Damn tricksy cat.

I eventually fall back asleep. Someone in the hall of my building has an attack of the crazy, however, and feels the need to run screaming around the halls, and laughing mind you, at full volume. At about 5am.

So, let’s see … Awake? Check. Cat awake? Check. Going back to sleep before petting cat? Nope. Still humid and icky? Check.

Right.

Wrist is hurting. Still feeling kinda like crap. Exhausted. Tossing and turning. Confused cat who yells at me and leaps off the bed. She then sits on the floor and glares at me. I get up and pace for about twenty minutes. Then back to bed. Cat comes with. More petting. More tossing and more turning. Eventual sleep.

Then my alarm goes off.

And I go to turn it off and sleep in a bit and maybe be a bit late but that’s all right, too.

Then the kids who go to the school that is right next to my building arrive. And they make a lot of noise.

So I get up. I get up and pick up the cat and put her down on the blanket, making a little nest for her. And I pet her and wrap her all nice and comfy and wish her luck sleeping the rest of the day away on my behalf.

And then the rest of the day happens.

Hi.
