Struck Through?

May 31st, 2007 by APK

So SixApart broke some sort of sacred trust and fucked up and apologized and started to fix it in a fairly decent time frame. Yes under 48 hours is decent, given the size of the company and user accounts.

Of course, out of over ten million accounts something like 500 were affected.

But this being the internet everyone had to:

A) Not understand what Free Speech means
B) Bitch like it was the end of the world
C) Make a rallying banner
D) Bitch some more
E) Not get the hell over it

Because as we all know, things we like aren’t allowed to be run by humans. They must be perfect at all times and never as fallible as any of us.

Well. The next time anyone I saw bitching screws up and annoys other people with their screw up I will start the clock. Let’s see how you all handle it.

God damn, people.

It’s the Internet. It’s a blog. Life continues apace.

More trip notes

May 29th, 2007 by APK

So I get on the plane. I’m flying Jet Blue, so I plug in some headphones and see a new XM button. Which means it’s time to turn to Fred and listen to music and read.

Nothing abnormal there.

We taxi away from the gate. We sit in line. Fred plays music.

Then we start to go down the runway, gaining speed. It’s the End of the World As We Know It comes on. Either one of the best or worst songs for a shaky take-off ever. Not sure yet.

Flight was bumpy and child filled. Most of them behaved and the one who really mostly didn’t I couldn’t get mad at. She had just learned to crawl and had been crawling all over the terminal being cute. So when she was locked into a chair and told she couldn’t crawl for hours and ever and ever and never again oh my lord it’s been like days since she could crawl she started whining. Not wailing, not crying, just generally being upset with life.

So I totally understood.

Then we landed and M picked me up and we hung out and then got food and then met Ed. And I grabbed some Red Bull and pop tarts for my room and came back.

I’m tired.

Airport fun

May 29th, 2007 by APK

Writing this from the airport quickly while sitting at my gate.

So I got tagged for the extra-special treatment this time around. They walked me over and the guy said “Arms out to the side, take two paces back.” He wands me and pats me down and decides he has to run my wallet through a machine.

Meanwhile a woman is pawing through my bags, looking as bored as humans can possibly look.

“He has some books,” she said to the guy. He nodded and gave me a look. Oh, I knew then this would be fun.

So she takes out the books: Dhalgren and The Tale of Genji (I like to travel with really big fucking books that I know I have a really stellar chance of not finishing before I get home, two large books versus six smaller ones, you know?) and sets them on the table.

She starts to flip through them.

She picks up Genji and walks it over to the guy. They mutter between themselves. She comes back to me and sets the book down again.

“Is there a problem with the book?” I ask.

“We’re still working,” she says to me, going back to the pawing and the boredom.

She packs all of my things except the book. That she calls over a supervisor to look at. He comes over, talks in low hushed tones with her and picks up the book.

“Yeah, good book,” he says and hands it to her to put in my bag.

I have no clue what that was about, really. Then they lost my boarding pass for a few minutes. It was a game of “It’s over there with that guy.” as I wandered from one very close place to the next. Finally I found the guy who took it and asked him.

“I gave it to,” he said and stopped to think, “no I didn’t.” Then he pulled it out of his pocket where he had put it, forgetting to hand it to someone.

They were as professional as possible, considering. I just still want to know why 11th century Japanese novels are a problem. And don’t suggest that they are dumb, stupid or otherwise mentally, culturally or otherwise challenged. This isn’t a call for insults. Just a bit of life.

May 29th, 2007 by APK

As I run out the door on my way to an airport I have to ask:

Where is thumbkin?

thatain’tsofunnydogs

May 28th, 2007 by APK

Understand that I don’t even like dogs. Still, all these lolcats must be driving them nuts. And so the dogs have formed thatain’tsofunnydogs. Being dogs, they don’t realize the name needs work. Still. They wanted their say. So here are some thatain’tsofunnydogs.

Site info

Just did a slight redo to hellblazer.net and everything should be settled down now. “Should be” means “hopefully is but probably isn’t” for those of you playing at home. I think it looks quite spiffy now.

Anyway, there ya go.

Cats.

May 27th, 2007 by APK

Sorry for the odd repost but the old page url for this entry has to go away so I am making this a post. Anyway:

I found myself growing sick of the whole “I’M IN UR xxxx STEALING UR yyyy” meme. I have a cat. I have lived with many cats. Cats would not type like that. They wouldn’t use “UR” and they would certainly not hold down the caps lock all damned day. I thought about this and I felt that perhaps, just maybe, the cats needed to say things in a different way. The same things, mind you, just not with the same words. So I grabbed some images, edited some stuff and here you go.

Feel free to link to this page, however I do ask that you not hotlink the images without linking back here. If you intend to use my bandwidth at least link to me. If you wish to download and steal the images, however, feel free.

And now, on with the cats:

Wait… what? The Sims?

May 25th, 2007 by APK

20th Century Fox has acquired feature rights to the life simulation computer game “The SIMS” from Electronic Arts, and has set project up with Fox-based John Davis.

Steve Asbell is overseeing the project for Fox with SIMS Studio head Rod Humble managing the creative property for Electronic Arts. Brian Lynch will script; story is under wraps with talent yet to be named.

“‘The SIMS has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it’s like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it,” said Humble. “Given that that’s an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling.”
——————————————————–
Wait… a SIMS movie? About how you deal with infinite power? Huh? But the Sims isn’t about that, it’s about… moving… little… fake people around! Unless they do the movie from the point of view of the player and… oh my lord it’s a God movie.

That’s what they’re gonna have to do isn’t it? Start out with some guy playing the Sims and controlling his universe and how he relates to the little computer people and then he gets transported into their world and has to deal with what he caused and learn the lesson that just because you have ultimate power…. which boils down to a 2 hour ad to NOT PLAY THE GAME.

I can not see this going well.
