Obligatory NY Event Post

Yes. Yes. A plane! A PLANE! In NY! Hit a building!
Never mind that this sort of thing happens. Small planes (or possibly helicopters but probably small fixed wing planes) sometimes have problems. Sometimes people flying them fuck up.
Now, how could a plane have flown “over Manhattan and hit a building”, some people ask. Some people want to know how this could have possibly happened. Fair enough! See it hit 72nd and York. York is right next to the East River. I mean right next to. You can throw rocks that far. Without hurting yourself. LaGuardia Airport is on the other side of the East River. Hang a right going into LaGuardia. Wait about a minute, tops. You’d be in falling distance of 72nd and York.
No. Seriously.
Does that make this not worth noticing? Of course not! People have died, people have lost stuff and there is at least one apartment that will probably be up for rent in Manhattan on the UES in the next month. This makes the event news, you understand.
What it doesn’t make for, is panic. Then again I have yet to see anyone in the city seem to be in a panic state. Planes, way before 9/11, have had a history of hitting buildings. We have a lot of them, understand, and many of them are high. Also, quite a few are near airports. It isn’t a shrugable offense, but it isn’t a default run around with your arms flailing kinda thing.
Will this fuck up the 7 tonight if you are headed to the Mets game? God I hope not. If you take the FDR though? God be with you, for I sure as fuck won’t be.
So to sum up: A plane, for reasons still not known, hit a building in Manhattan. Does this mean a Government response of having jets fly over major cities around the nation “just in case”? Sure! They might cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to launch and fly around but damn it, you have to be made sure to feel safe from uhm… accidents. So there we have it.
To sum up the summing up:
1) Plane.
2) Traffic on the East Side
3) Airports are not closed
4) Mets still have a shot tonight
5) Real estate opening up
EDITED TO ADD: So it seems that the plane was piloted by one Cory Lidle, NY Yankees pitcher. Need another reason to fucking root for the Mets?
METS BASEBALL - We don’t KILL people.
No, I know, sad. He ran out of gas, called 911 from the plane and then freaked out, supposedly. Not bright. Then again, he was a pitcher.
